I was at the library the other day, flipping through old magazines, when I came upon the following advertisement in an issue of Forbes from 1984, which I felt honor-bound to scan:
First, I didn't know EF Hutton was ever in the walkie-talkie business. I thought they were just a financial company. I remember their old slogan from when I was a kid: "When EF Hutton talks, people listen." I guess they thought they could play on that to sell hand-held communications.
But secondly, and I'm sure you noticed this, what is going on with the picture in the lower right? Does it have anything to do with anything? Just "Gedde Watanabe as 'The Donger'" and that's it. I still can't figure it out.
I don't remember there being walkie-talkies in Sixteen Candles, and even if there were, what the hell kind of promotion is that?
